Allen & Wheelock Side Hammer Navy Percussion Revolver
The Side-Hammer Navy revolver has been produced in 3 variants or types:
- First type: The trigger guard has a friction latch system and a side plate with multiple screws.
- Second type: The trigger guard has the improved snap latch, but the side plates are still with multiple screws.
- Third type: The side plate has now only a single screw
It is just a guess but observing the serial numbers and taking in consideration the limited production quantities, I believe that the 1st and 2nd type were probably in production simultaneously using the same serial range, while the 3rd type has its own range. I will therefor classify using this assumption.
